Description
A simple recipe for spaghetti topped with a savory ground turkey meat sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 ounces spaghetti
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Add ground turkey to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Add oregano and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the sauce to a simmer. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Longer simmering improves flavor.
- While the sauce simmers, cook spaghetti according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
- Serve the turkey bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add 1/4 cup of dry red wine after browning the turkey and let it cook down before adding the tomatoes.
- Stir in a tablespoon of sugar if the tomatoes taste too acidic.
