Description
A rich hot chocolate recipe incorporating red wine for an adult flavor.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup dry red wine (like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Combine milk and heavy cream in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Heat until steaming, but do not boil.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Add the chopped chocolate, sugar, and salt. Whisk until the chocolate is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Return the saucepan to low heat. Stir in the red wine and vanilla extract. Heat gently for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Do not let it boil.
- Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use a dry, full-bodied red wine for the best flavor integration.
- For a thicker texture, whisk in 1 teaspoon of cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon of cold water before adding the wine, and heat until slightly thickened.
