Description

A quick recipe for savory ground beef seasoned with Korean flavors served over rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon gochujang (Korean chili paste, optional)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 cups cooked white rice
  • 2 green onions, sliced, for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, gochujang (if using), and water.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the cooked ground beef in the skillet.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and coats the beef.
  6. Divide the cooked rice among four bowls.
  7. Spoon the Korean ground beef mixture over the rice in each bowl.
  8. Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier flavor, increase the amount of gochujang.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
  • Serve with a side of kimchi for extra flavor.
