Description

A simple recipe for a sweet and savory chicken and rice bowl with a honey garlic sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water (for slurry)
  • Optional: Green onions, sliced, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice according to package directions using 2 cups of water.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and ginger. Set aside.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add chicken pieces to the skillet and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour the reserved sauce mixture over the cooked chicken. Bring to a simmer.
  6. In a separate small bowl, mix cornstarch and 1/4 cup water to create a slurry.
  7. Stir the slurry into the simmering sauce. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 1 minute.
  8. Serve the honey garlic chicken over the cooked rice. Garnish with sliced green onions if desired.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken thighs for breasts if you prefer.
  • For a thicker sauce, increase the cornstarch slightly.
